After visiting a number of cities, Punta Mita quickly became my paradise twelve years ago. Punta Mita is an exclusive gated community north of Puerto Vallarta. (Full disclosure - the Kardashians vacation at Joe Francis' Punta Mita estate, but we didn't know that in 2003!) The Four Seasons Punta Mita and the St. Regis Punta Mita are such special places for me. They are both the epitome of understated luxury and the service is (obviously) incredible. Both properties take advantage of the natural grounds, with the hotel rooms and villas flowing perfectly with the landscape. And the best part is even when they are at capacity, it never feels crowded or loud. One of my favorite things about the St. Regis are the outdoor showers in each hotel room. They are so liberating and refreshing! I couldn't get enough! The St. Regis's Remede Spa is also outdoors and incredibly relaxing. And if you or your other half is a golfer, you'll love the golf courses! The 18th hole on one of the two Jack Nicklaus courses is an island! Add in amazing dining options, and you're guaranteed to have a wonderful stay.
Unable to tolerate this winter any longer, I joined my aunt and uncle at their timeshare in Nuevo Vallarta a few weeks ago and got upgraded to the Grande Luxxe Residence Club. Although it's part of a much larger resort, if you stay in the Grande Luxxe area, you'll definitely feel more secluded. There are 16 three-bedroom, two-story lofts and they are absolutely exquisite. The views here are quite different than Punta Mita, as you can see the Sierra Madre mountains, downtown Puerto Vallarta, and the marina.
Here are some photos of these gorgeous resorts. What's your favorite place to visit?
